Chloe Marsh is a pottery artist who runs Flamin Hot Pots. She creates and hand builds functional ceramic pieces with colourful glazes, often with sculpted faces and silly expressions. She loves to make anything from mugs to vases and more, and sells her items online.
Why did you decide to start your own business?
I had been doing pottery as a hobby for about two years when I decided to make an Instagram account to share pieces I was making. After a while I started getting requests from people to buy things and it grew from there!
I started selling at a local market and then created my website this year. I’ve been involved in some exhibitions and events since then. I’m so glad I took the plunge!
What has been the most rewarding aspect of running your business(es)?
I love creating unique pieces that can be used every day and that are fun to look at. When I get messages from people telling me how much they love their pots, it really makes my day. The whole process has been so rewarding as I’m learning new things every day that I never thought I would be.
What are your top 3 frustrations with managing money for your business and what would a better future look like?
My top three frustrations would be bookkeeping, tracking my expenses and following up invoices.
Creating ceramics is time consuming and messy, and often it’s hard for me to juggle all the different aspects of owning business while still leaving time to actually make items, list, pack and ship them!
A better future for me would be having a way to manage my finances all in one place that keeps things simple and easy to follow, giving me more time to focus on creating new things.
